44th Annual S.F. Decorator Showcase

May 1st-29th, 2023

Tue.–Sun. through Monday, May 29

625 El Camino Del Mar

After a two-year hiatus, this quintessential spring event has returned with a glorious flare. This year’s showcase is a 1927 6,000 square-foot-plus 18th-century-style Mediterranean Spanish home designed by renowned architects Hyman and Appleton, and features classic Spanish castle detailing, bay views, and more. Situated on a raised corner lot in Sea Cliff, the exterior evokes a midcentury modern feel, which is complemented by the landscaping. Inside, the home boasts exquisite detailing including a circular concrete staircase (highlighted by “The Glowing Canopy” tree-like light installation), arched leaded glass windows, ironwork, and other original flourishes, which many of the designers have incorporated into their work.

The spaces flow together with ease and elegance, many drawing on the color palette, shapes, and textures inspired by the sweeping views of the bay and the headlands visible from many areas of the home. Soft sage greens, blues, and aquas occupy many of the spaces, lending a cohesive flow throughout, without pop-out surprises of bright color and darker cozy spaces, some with natural materials and surfaces, including walls either plastered, hand-painted, or “de Gournay-ed.”

Don’t miss “… and the Hazy Sea Powder Room and Antechamber,” “De Déjeuner à Dessert,” “Sunset Salon,” “The Elevator,” “Professor Emeneau’s Fijinohana: Guest Bedroom,” “The Kingfisher Suite, “A Rare Gem,” “Max’s Magical Playroom,” “Reflections on Stardust,” “Lounge Bathroom,” “Fitness is my Passion,” … and, well, the entire showcase.

Proceeds benefit S.F. University High School’s financial aid program. $45, 415-447-5830, decoratorshowcase.org
