In this 17th-century Venetian opera by Carlo Pallavicino, clever, lecherous Messalina turns the tables on the gullible Emperor Claudius, who is hardly innocent himself. Meanwhile two other couples suffer their own romantic vicissitudes in a convoluted plot of kidnappings and betrayals that leads to a reconciliation that will last only as long as Messalina can keep pulling the wool over Claudius’s eyes. $27–$250, arsminerva.org
