I have fond memories of watching baseball games with my dad at Liverpool Lil’s, and then stepping from the bar into the restaurant for a heaping platter of fish and chips. The last time I visited, however, the fish and chips were a disappointment. There was too much batter and it was still raw inside; the fish was tough, not flaky and moist as I’d remembered; and the “chips” were skinny fries, not the thick steak-cut chips traditionally served. My dining companion had the Caesar salad, which was gargantuan and quite good. There are a number of dishes at Lil’s that are dependably solid, including the shepherd’s pie, burger, and wild-caught West Coast petrale sole meuniere.
Tip: Lil’s serves a three-course price-fixed menu for $23 Monday–Friday 5–7 p.m. Try the Manchester Wellington: ground chuck topped with Black Forest ham baked in puff pastry and finished with Béarnaise sauce.
Not to miss: French onion soup, Caesar salad, Manchester Wellington, shepherd’s pie, petrale sole
