In honor of the San Francisco Arts Com-mission’s 80th anniversary, the Art on Market Street Poster Series kicks off with six original posters by Paul Madonna, whose feature “All Over Coffee” appears in the S.F. Chronicle. Madonna’s posters will adorn Market Street between Eighth and the Embarcadero from June 11 through Sept. 28, 2012.
Madonna is highly regarded for his ability to capture the essence of San Francisco, where encounters with the City’s unique architectural features are an everyday delight. He is known for his highly detailed pen and ink drawings, taking viewers from the City’s overlooked corners to its grandest vistas.
The posters highlight literature, music, film, opera, dance, and the visual arts. Each discipline is complemented by a full-color pen-and-ink drawing of a city scene with a handwritten quote or historical story about a notable art figure to emphasize the varied voices and experiences of San Francisco artists.
After the display period, a limited number of Art on Market Street posters can be purchased for $50 on a first-come-first-served basis. Reproductions of select posters in Madonna’s series can be purchased from www.paulmadonna.com, with a portion of the proceeds supporting the S.F. Arts Commission.
